There’s a particular cadence to a Dubai day. Coffee somewhere on a marble counter. A late breakfast that becomes lunch. A drive to a gallery, or a quieter beach. By the time the sun starts to drop, the city has changed character, and so has what you’re wearing.
If you’ve ever stood in front of your wardrobe at ten in the morning wondering what to wear in Dubai during the day, you already know the problem. The temperature swings between an over-conditioned mall and a 38-degree pavement within five minutes. The dress code shifts from a coastal café to a cousin’s apartment to a private gallery, sometimes in the same afternoon. Daywear here has to be quietly versatile.
Our Day collection is built for this in-between — for the woman who needs her outfit to read well at brunch, at the gallery, and on the drive home, without changing twice.
What to wear in Dubai during the day: four principles
Lightweight, but not flimsy. Linen blends, soft poplins, cottons with structure. The fabric carries you through both the indoor and outdoor parts of the day. Thin synthetic dresses photograph well in studio shots but cling and pucker once they meet humidity; natural fibres with weight read more luxe and tolerate Dubai’s specific climate paradox.
Long sleeve doesn’t mean cover-up. A drapey long-sleeve top in cream or ink reads more considered than a strappy alternative — even in summer, especially in summer. Long sleeves keep the strongest sun off your arms during a 10-minute walk between a parking garage and a restaurant, and read better in conservative spaces.
Neutrals over prints, almost always. Prints date a piece to its season — a pattern you bought in March looks tired by August. A well-cut cream maxi or ink set works in March and again in November. If you want pattern, let it come through in texture.
One detail, never three. A neckline, a sleeve, or a hem — pick one place for the dress to do something interesting. The rest stays quiet. This is the difference between editorial and busy.
What to wear to brunch in Dubai
Brunch in Dubai is its own dress code. For a standing brunch at a hotel (champagne, multiple courses, photographs guaranteed), a maxi dress with a defined waist, in cream, sand, or ink, photographs cleanly against marble and holds up across the three or four hours you’ll spend there.
For a weekend brunch in a courtyard or garden, lighter fabrics — a linen co-ord, a soft cotton midi — sit better with the more relaxed setting. Sandals over heels.
For a weekday brunch with friends, a maxi shirt-dress or a co-ord with a relaxed top is usually right. This is daywear’s sweet spot — finished, not fussy.
How to dress modestly in Dubai (without sacrificing the silhouette)
Modest dressing in Dubai is not a single rule — it’s a sliding scale. Some venues, neighbourhoods, and social circles ask for more coverage than others. Government buildings, mosques, and some private homes are more conservative; most malls, restaurants, and tourist areas are not.
A few things that read modest without reading conservative:
• A long-sleeve maxi over a slip silhouette. The shape stays elegant; the coverage handles the room.
• A high-neck top with wide trousers. The proportions feel modern; the silhouette stays editorial.
• A button-front shirt-dress. Practical because you can adjust how much it opens at the top depending on the setting.
What we deliberately do not do: shapeless silhouettes that read “covered up” without reading “considered.” The point of modest dressing is to be elegant; it should never look like an apology.
Fabrics that actually work in the UAE heat
If you’ve lived through a Dubai summer, you already know the fabrics that lie: thin polyester, fast-fashion rayon, anything described as “silky” that’s actually 100% synthetic. They look light, but they trap heat and crease the moment you sit in a car.
What works: linen and linen blends (wrinkle, but breathe). Heavier cotton poplin (holds shape, lasts). Crepe in light viscose blends (drapes, doesn’t cling). Silk and silk blends (expensive, but unmatched).
The day in four notes
A drapey midi for the brunch that drifts into the afternoon. A long-sleeve resort dress for the gallery walk. A linen co-ord for the drive to the coast. A maxi shirt-dress for the days when nothing needs to be decided.
Frequently asked
What should women wear in Dubai during the day?
Lightweight, structured fabrics that move between indoor and outdoor spaces. Long-sleeve silhouettes are easier than strappy ones. Neutrals over prints, almost always.
Is it OK to wear shorts in Dubai?
In most malls, beaches, and tourist areas, yes. In government buildings, mosques, and more conservative neighbourhoods, no.
What’s the dress code for Dubai brunch?
Smart-casual at minimum. For a hotel champagne brunch, dressed up — a maxi dress or a tailored co-ord. For weekend or weekday brunches, a soft midi or co-ord works.
Do I need to cover my shoulders in Dubai?
In most public-facing settings, no — but a covered shoulder reads more polished in nearly every Dubai daytime scenario, and it’s almost always the safer choice.
